In 1952, John Gardner--then John C. Gardner and a sophomore at DePauw University--sat down at his desk on Sunday, September 26, and started a daily journal in a notebook. "Most important in this thing," he surmises in the first entry, "is sincerity."  The result is Lies! Lies! Lies!, the first autobiographical work of Gardner's to be published since his death in 1982.
