Food Processing Training Program

Training details for participants

  • Intensive two week training program
  • Five day weeks from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Session 2- September 23, 2013 and conclude on October 4, 2013
  • Training will take place on the GCC campus
  • Participants are responsible for your own transportation to and from GCC
  • Lunch will be provided daily
  • Classes will be delivered by GCC, RIT and Cornell

Training outline for participants

  • Team Building including a DISC assessment
  • The Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Course
  • The OSHA 10 Hour General Industry Program
  • Cornell’s Basic Course in Dairy Science & Sanitation
  • An Introduction to Operations in a Food Processing Environment
  • An Introduction to Supply Chain Principles
  • Presentations from local food processors on their operations

In addition to receiving a noncredit certificate from GCC, participants will have a permanent record and transcript from GCC for successful completion of the program and will receive individual certificates for successful completion from issuing organizations or institutions. Those certificates include:

  • A Lean Systems Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certificate (RIT)
  • Working with Others to Build the Team (GCC)
  • Basic Dairy Science & Sanitation Certificate (Cornell)
  • An OSHA Certificate for Safety in a Manufacturing Environment (GCC)

The training program is being funded by an Area Development grant obtained by the Genesee County Economic Development Center from the National Fuel Gas Corporation with additional financial support from the Finger Lakes Food Cluster Initiative—funded by the Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration in the amount of $38,000 or 28% of the program.
