Women’s Swimming & Diving Program Overview
The women’s swimming program at GCC is a member of the NJCAA Region III. There are twenty-one women’s programs in the country, ten of which are a member of Region III. The women’s swimming and diving team has a meteoric rise to success at Genesee. In their first five years of existence, the Lady Cougars won two National Championships in the non-scholarship division and finished second three times.
2008-2009 Season Wrap-Up
The Genesee Community College women’s swimming team had a strong 2008-2009 season, finishing 4-1 while breaking multiple individual and relay records. GCC Athlete of the Year, Sarah Barr (Middleport, NY) broke five individual records including the 50 freestyle (25.38), 100 freestyle (55.13), 100 backstroke (1:01.40), 200 backstroke (2:13.49) and 200 individual medley (2:15.91). Barr was also a member of four record breaking relays. The 400 freestyle relay team of Barr, Abby Duerden (Akron, NY), Bobbie Jo Passamonte (Corfu, NY) and Claire Vanderberg (Batavia, NY) swam to a new record time of 3:54.17. The record breaking 800 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay all consisted of Barr, Katelin Adamczak (Dunkirk, NY), Passamonte and Vanderberg. Head Coach Scott Hunsinger looks to build on the success of the 2008-2009 season to make for an even better 2009-2010 season.
