    Women's Basketball: 2009-2010

    Program Overview

The women's basketball team competes at the NJCAA Division II level and is a part of Region III and the Western New York Athletic Conference. There is a rich history of success as the Lady Cougars earned several trips to the National Tournament along with numerous conference and regional titles. The basketball team also has a good track record of placing its graduates at four year institutions. In the last three years alone, four players have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their playing careers at NCAA Division I schools. During that time, five other Lady Cougars received scholarships to NCAA Division II or NAIA schools.

    Women's Basketball: Season Wrap-Up

Genesee’s Women’s Basketball team was very strong throughout the entire winter season with a record of 18-9 overall, insuring them a number two seed for the regional playoffs. They won their first round game against Mercyhurst Northeast, but the season soon came to an end against Jamestown Community College in the regional championship.

The team accumulated many individual accomplishments, which included Jamia Martin being named Region III Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and 1st Team All-Region. Martin averaged 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals per game. Other All-Region selections included Krystie Laurie, 1st team, Kamela Bender, 2nd team, and Marcedes Caver, honorable mention.

The team has many young players that will return, with some new talented freshman, to fill the roster next season. Coach Christie McGee-Ross will be preparing to lead her team in the offseason in order to continue the success of the program and take home the regional title next season.
