    Women's Basketball: 2009-2010

    Program Overview

The women's basketball team competes at the NJCAA Division II level and is a part of Region III and the Western New York Athletic Conference. There is a rich history of success as the Lady Cougars earned several trips to the National Tournament along with numerous conference and regional titles. The basketball team also has a good track record of placing its graduates at four year institutions. In the last three years alone, four players have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their playing careers at NCAA Division I schools. During that time, five other Lady Cougars received scholarships to NCAA Division II or NAIA schools.

    Women's Basketball: 2008-2009 Season Wrap-up

The Genesee Community College women’s basketball team finished the 2008-2009 season with one of their most successful runs in GCC history under first year head coach Christie McGee-Ross, finishing the season 20-9, and a perfect 10-0 in the region. The Lady Cougars finished the year with a pair of 1st team All-Region players in Bianca Jones (Long Island City, NY) and Brittany McCray (Lyons, NY), a pair on the 2nd team All-Region in Jamia Martin (Syracuse, NY) and De’yara Burrell (Rochester, NY), and one on the 3rd All-Region Team in Cynnetha Bellinger (Binghamton, NY). The Lady Cougars travelled to East Peoria, Illinois for the National Tournament where they took home a sixth place finish, the best in schools history. McCray made the All-star team at the National Tournament, while Martin was crowned MVP of the Region III Championships. Coach McGee-Ross was named Region III Women’s Division II Basketball Coach of the Year for 2009. Martin led the team in scoring with 252 points on the year, averaging 11.4 points per game as she started all 22 games for the Cougars. Bellinger, Jones and McCray all finished the season with over 200 points as well. The Cougars return a hand full of players from this years’ roster and with some additions they will work toward a return trip back to East Peoria to compete for a National Championship in the 2009-2010 season.
