Women's Basketball Program Overview

The women’s basketball team competes at the NJCAA Division II level and is a part of Region III and the Western New York Athletic Conference. There is a rich history of success as the Lady Cougars earned several trips to the National Tournament along with numerous conference and regional titles. The basketball team also has a good track record of placing its graduates at four year institutions. In the last three years alone, four players have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their playing careers at NCAA Division I schools. During that time, five other Lady Cougars received scholarships to NCAA Division II or NAIA schools.

2008-2009 Season Wrap-Up
The Genesee Community College women’s basketball team finished the 2008-2009 season with one of their most successful runs in GCC history under first year head coach Christie McGee-Ross, finishing the season 20-9, and a perfect 10-0 in the region.  Jamia Martin (Syracuse, NY) led the team in scoring with 252 points on the year, averaging 11.4 points per game as she started all 22 games for the Cougars. Cynnetha Bellinger (Binghamton, NY), Bianca Jones (Long Island City, NY) and Brittany McCray (Lyons, NY) all finished the season with over 200 points as well. Bellinger led the team in assists with 90, averaging 4 assists per game. The team finished the season with a trip to the National Tournament in Illinois.  The team finished 5thoverall in the nation and is looking to build on these accomplishments for next season.
