Women's Basketball

Women's Basketball Program Overview

The women’s basketball team competes at the NJCAA Division II level and is a part of Region III and the Western New York Athletic Conference. There is a rich history of success as the Lady Cougars earned several trips to the National Tournament along with numerous conference and regional titles. The basketball team also has a good track record of placing its graduates at four year institutions. In the last three years alone, four players have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their playing careers at NCAA Division I schools. During that time, five other Lady Cougars received scholarships to NCAA Division II or NAIA schools.

2007-2008 Season Wrap-Up
For the second consecutive season, the women's basketball team won the Region III DII tournament and advanced to the NJCAA DII national tournament, finishing the season 24-6. Along with those accomplishments, the Lady Cougars also won the WYNAC championship.

At the national tournament, the Lady Cougars made a statement, defeating MCC Penn-Valley in the opening round, advancing to play the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, Kankakee. Although the Lady Cougars fell to Kankakee by four, they proved that they could hang with anyone in Division II. With five players returning, the Lady Cougars hope to add a great recruiting class and make their way back to the national tournament next season.

Sophomore Ariel Smith (Wallkill, NY) was named to the National All-Tournament team, as well as being named to the Region III Second Team. Smith led the team in scoring with 10.5ppg and three point field goal percentage, shooting 36.7%.
