    Program Overview

The women's basketball team competes at the NJCAA Division II level and is a part of Region III and the Western New York Athletic Conference. There is a rich history of success as the Lady Cougars earned several trips to the National Tournament along with numerous conference and regional titles. The basketball team also has a good track record of placing its graduates at four year institutions. During that time, five other Lady Cougars received scholarships to NCAA Division II or NAIA schools.

Lady Cougars Basketball falls to Lakeland CC

This past Saturday the Lady Cougars basketball team headed to Lakeland Community College dropping to the Lakers by the score of 86-81.

Genesee fell behind early and could not overcome the strong post play of the Lakers as they went into halftime down 47-39. However, the Lady Cougars came out strong after the break and brought the game within two as they went on an 8-2 run. The Lakers though would follow with a run of their own stretching their lead to 10 points soon after.

Genesee did not give up and fought their way back bringing the game within one at 70-69, they would tie the game at 71 on their next possession with a jumper from freshman Krystie Laurey (Horseheads, NY) who had 22 points and 6 rebounds on the day. However, the Lakers pulled away yet again before the teams exchanged buckets and free throws the rest of the way giving the Lakers a five point win.

The Lady Cougars had five players in double digits including Laurey, Marcedes Caver (Bedford Heights, OH) who had 19 points, Megan McClurg (Perry, NY) who had 13 points and 5 rebounds, Shakatta Brown (Rochester, NY) and Jamia Martin (Syracuse, NY) who each chipped in 10 points respectively.
