    Swimming & Diving: 2009-2010

    Program Overview

    The women's swimming program at GCC is a member of the NJCAA Region III. There are twenty-one women's programs in the country, ten of which are a member of Region III. The women's swimming and diving team has a meteoric rise to success at Genesee. In their first five years of existence, the Lady Cougars won two National Championships in the non-scholarship division and finished second three times.

    The men's swimming program at GCC is a member of the NJCAA Region III. There are twenty men's programs in the country, ten of which are a member of Region III. The men's swimming and diving team is on the rise at GCC. They had their highest finish ever in the Northeastern District meet last season and are coming off back to back top three finishes in the non-scholarship division at the National Championships.


    2009 Genesee Harvest Swimming Invitational Highlights

    The Genesee Community College Swimming & Diving teams opened their competitive season Saturday by hosting the 2009 Genesee Harvest Invitational. Taking part in the competition were teams from Erie Community College, Herkimer County Community College, Alfred State College, SUNY Delhi, and Jamestown Community College. Erie took top honors on the women’s side with 199 points, while Herkimer won the men’s competition with 214.5 points. The Lady Cougars took fourth place (107 points), while the men took sixth (60 points).

    Freshman Eric Kowalik (Akron, NY) led your Cougars with two first place finishes, Kowalik touched first in the 1,000 yard freestyle and the 500 yd. freestyle with times of 11:58.17 and 5:47.68 respectively. Also performing strong in the distance events was fellow freshman Leslie Flannery (Newark, NY) who took second on the women’s side with times of 12:13.30 and 6:00.64. Flannery teamed up with sophomore Stephanie Mott (Oakfield, NY) to take second and third place in 100 yd. freestyle, Mott also garnered second place honors in the 200 freestyle. Also on the women’s side, sophomore Katelin Adamczak (Dunkirk, NY) took second place honors in the 200 yd. individual medley, and the 100 yd. breaststroke. Continuing on the men’s side; Kowalik combined with sophomore Dustin Shepard (Castile, NY) to take fifth and sixth place in the 100 yd. butterfly, Shepard also had a strong performance with freshman Justin Perry (Batavia, NY) in the 50 yd. freestyle.

    The teams return to action against Erie Community College on November 18th.
