Softball Program Overview
The women's softball team competes at the NJCAA Region III Division III level and is part of the Western New York Athletic Conference. The team plays a non-traditional season in the fall and more than 30 games in the competitive spring season. The team has made it to the regional tournament for the past three consecutive years with student-athletes from all over New York and Canada.
2009 Spring Wrap-up
The Genesee Community College Softball team wrapped up their 2009 season with an overall record of 19-17 (16-9 WNYAC). Finishing 5th in the region, the Lady Cougars lost to the eventual national championship team in their final game of the season. 2nd team All-region honoree Brandi Froman (Albion, NY) led the Cougars in most aspects of the game, finishing the season with a team-high .523 batting average, while knocking in 37 RBIs and 67 hits. Froman was an all-around outstanding player, dominating at the defensive short stop position as well. Sophomore team captain, Laura Olcott (Ticonderoga, NY) led the Cougars from the mound, striking out 97 batters in 115 innings pitched, finishing the season with a 2.25 ERA. The team was also led by the stability of sophomore captains Jaime Rodrigues (London, Ontario) and Juli Rushton (Fergus, Ontario). The Lady Cougars are looking to continue their successes for the 2009-2010 as they build on their core returning freshman.
