    Men's Basketball: 2009-2010

    Program Overview

The men's basketball team competes at the NJCAA Division II level. The Cougars are also part of Region III and the Western New York Athletic Conference. The team has a strong history of success as the Cougars have won eight conference, two regional and two district titles. The team turned in back to back appearances at the national tournament in 2002 and 2003. Many players have gone on to play at the NCAA and NAIA Division I and Division II levels.

    Men’s Basketball: Season Wrap-Up

The Genesee Men’s Basketball team finished with a strong overall record of 17-12 while going 9-5 in the strongest conference in the Nation. The WNYAC conference in 2010 boasted both the #1 and #2 teams in the nation in Monroe and Erie. The cougars advanced to the Region III final four before falling to #1 ranked rival Monroe CC.
Several players from Genesee received honors for their hard work during the season. The team’s leading scorer and rebounder, Leon Nelson, was named Player of the Year in Region III, Division II. Nelson averaged over 19 points per game, ranking him 25th nationally and grabbed nearly 13 boards a game. Quintin Redfern averaged 12 points and 6 assists per game putting him on the 2nd Team All-Region. 3rd Team All-Region honors went to Terrell Rankin for averaging just under 12 points and 6 rebounds per game.
Although the season is over, players are already setting goals for next year, including plans to win the regional tournament and advance to the nationals.
