Cheerleading: 2009-2010
Program Overview
The Genesee Community College Cheer Team and Mascot Program is a vital part of the athletic program providing entertainment and motivation for our Cougar teams. The GCC Cougar Cheer Team and Mascot act as ambassadors for the College participating at countless events and community service projects throughout the year.
The Cougar Cheer Team is looking for intelligent and energetic young athletes that enjoy cheering and would like the opportunity to cheer at the college level. At GCC we cheer at all of the home basketball games and select sporting events throughout the year. At the games you will have the chance to cheer in front of hundreds of screaming Cougar fans!
The GCC Cheer team program was established as an athletic sport for Fall 2009 and are looking to build a very strong tradition. Members of the team are recognized as true spirit leaders on campus. The 20-22 members are highly visible throughout the year and can be seen at athletic events, campus programs and volunteering in the community.
The team practices 3 times a week (tentatively set for Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.) and there will also be an athletic study hall included. Though a number of hours are required each week to prepare for events, students are able and encouraged to seek participation in other organizations.
The team is led by a professional coach with many years of experience! If you are, or know of anyone, that might be interested in trying out for the Cougar Cheer Team please feel free to contact Cheer Coach Jennifer Newell at jmnewell@genesee.edu or (585) 343-0055 ext. 6314.
The Genesee Community College Athletic Department supports and directs the Cougar Cheer Team. As a sport team in the athletic department the cheer team adheres to the role and mission of the Genesee Community College Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
