Peggy Sisson Peggy Sisson

With the goal of ensuring that every student athlete has a positive academic and athletic experience at Genesee Community College, Peggy Sisson is beginning her first year as athletic director at the college.  She was named athletic director on July 1, 2007, after 20 years of working at GCC.

From 2002 until 2007, Sisson was an associate professor of health and physical education, after her tenure as an assistant professor from 1987 to 2002, during which time she was also the head women’s basketball coach and women’s softball coach.  During her collegiate coaching career, she won more than 300 games.  At GCC, her teams won six NJCAA regional championships, including three straight between 1997 and 1999. 

Prior to starting at Genesee in 1987, Sisson worked for eight years as the head women’s basketball coach and physical education instructor at Fredonia State. 

Sisson received her associate of science degree from Genesee Community College before going onto Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, for her bachelor of science in health and physical education.  She earned her master’s degree in physical education from Brockport State, where she also obtained her CAS and SAS administrative certification.

In her career, Sisson has received many awards and honors, including being named Coach of the year in Region III Division II six times and District C women’s basketball coach of the year five times.  She received the President’s Distinguished Service Award in 2000 and the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1999.

Ron Spiotta
Assistant to the Athletic Director; Coordinator of Intramurals

Ron Spiotta has over 17 years of experience in programming for the college student. As the coordinator of intramural programs at GCC, Ron organizes, implements, and directs over 20 team and individual programs. He also serves as coordinator for the GCC Summer Sports Camp program, directing up to 8 camps serving more than 300 area youth.

Ron graduated from SUNY Brockport with a B.P.S. degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies (78). He formerly was the Director of Activities at Buck Hill Inn, a convention and family resort in the Pocono Mountains. Please contact Ron Spiotta at 585-343-0055 x6406


Corinne Pellegrini
Women’s Basketball Coach/Sports Information Director

Corinne Pellegrini begins her first year as Genesee’s head women’s basketball coach.  Originally from Massachusetts, she comes to GCC with several years of coaching and playing experience at both the secondary and collegiate levels. 

From 2005-2007, Pellegrini was an assistant women’s coach at University of Rochester where she worked to develop U of R’s inside game, recruit student-athletes, scout opponents, and fundraise for the team.  While at Rochester, she helped the team reach two NCAA Sweet Sixteen contests. 

Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Pellegrini coached at both the high school and club levels.  In 2004, she was named the head varsity girl’s coach in Pembroke, Massachusetts.  While at Pembroke, she created and directed the first summer girl’s basketball camp, “Get Fired Up”.  During that time, Pellegrini was a coach for the Boston Monarchs AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) program.  She also works as a summer camp counselor for both girls and boys at several colleges and universities in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and New York. 

Pellegrini played Division III collegiate basketball at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME.  While at Bowdoin (’99-’03), she was a member of a NCAA Sweet Sixteen team, and co-captain of two NCAA Elite Eight teams. 

In 2003, she earned her B.A. in biology and received secondary teacher certification from Bowdoin College.  Pellegrini recently completed the requirements for her master’s degree in education and will receive her degree in October from the University of Rochester.

Roger Majeski
Fitness Center Coordinator

As the Fitness Center Coordinator, Roger Majeski is responsible for the body conditioning and weight training classes and the other activities in the fitness center, including the hiring and training of its the staff. Majeski received a Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport in Political Science with a minor in history (1986). Scott Hunsinger
Aquatics Coordinator/Web Coordinator

Coach Scott Hunsinger, of Brockport, New York has served as the Aquatics Director for the Rush Henrietta School District, where he also coached the girl’s and boy’s swim team and was responsible for a variety of other aquatic functions, such as teaching, supervising staff and scheduling.  From 1989 to 1999 he served as the Head Coach for the Westside Swim Club, where he worked with 85 youngsters from ages 6-18.  Coach Hunsinger also served as an Assistant Supervisor for the “Learn to Swim Program” for the town of Odgen and as an Assistant Swimming Coach for Brockport State College.  Other previous experiences include serving as an Assistant Varsity Coach at Spencerport High School, Men's Varsity Coach at Churchville-Chili High School, Head Coach for the Fairmont Aquatic Club (WV), and Head Coach for the Bridgeport Swim Club (WV). He also has attended USA Swimming Conferences at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

A few of the certifications Mr. Hunsinger possesses are Certified Pool Operator, Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, CPR Instructor, and First Aid.  He has served as Class B Chairperson for Section V Boy’s Swimming, Monroe County Chairperson - Boy’s Swimming and as the Assistant Coordinator for Section V - Girl’s Swimming, and Class B Chairperson - Girl’s Swimming.

Coach Hunsinger has a Master of Science degree (2007) in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from California University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science degree (89) in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science, from Fairmont State College in West Virginia. Robert (Skip) Sherman

Robert (Skip) Sherman has been active in the sport of baseball for over 18 years.  He began coaching little league in the early 1990’s and continued through high school and college.  From 1991 to 1995 Coach Sherman served as head baseball coach for Arkport High School in Arkport, New York.  As head coach, he was responsible for all facets of the program including field preparation, fundraising, teaching basic fundamentals and utilizing effective game strategy.  Through a wide range of creative techniques and relentless effort, he was able to develop a very successful program from one that was struggling and near extinction.  During his tenure, he produced a winning record in four of his five years while leading his team to the sectional finals in his last season.

In 1997, Coach Sherman accepted the position as assistant baseball coach at Alfred State College.  While he continued to work in all areas of the game, his primary responsibilities were with pitching and recruitment.  Coach Sherman’s interest and ability as a recruiter was strengthened throughout this experience. 

Coach Sherman joined Genesee in 2003 and has proven to be a huge asset to the Cougar’s baseball program.  Coach Sherman led his team to the first conference title in 2005.  The 2005 baseball team also broke many records including the most wins in a season.  Coach Sherman plans to continue this success and intends to keep improving each year.

Eric Sandler
Athletic Trainer

Eric Sandler began as the new head athletic trainer for the GCC Cougars in September of 2007.  He works with all nine varsity athletic programs here at the college.  Eric, who is also a certified strength and conditioning coach, will work with the athletic teams in an effort to get the Cougar student-athletes into “top shape”.

He has many years of athletic training experience. From 2006-2007, Eric was employed by Agape Physical Therapy and served as the head athletic trainer for Webster Schroeder High School.  From 2004-2006, Eric served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University at Buffalo.  He was responsible for covering games and practices for the women’s volleyball team and both men’s and women’s track and field teams.  Eric has also been an athletic trainer for several summer sports’ camps in the western New York area.

Eric graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York College at Brockport with a bachelor’s degree in physical education, with a concentration in athletic training.  He later furthered his education at the University at Buffalo where he received a master’s degree in exercise science, with a concentration in applied physiology.
