    Cougars upend Wilfrid Laurier

    The Genesee Community College baseball team cruised past visiting Wilfrid Laurier (Canada) on Friday afternoon, winning the one, nine-inning game 15-1.

    Shakeel Newton (Christiansted, Virgin Islands) was 3-6 in the game with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Brandon Collins (Toronto, ON) was 2-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in, Fauchedre Celestijn (Willemstad, Curacao) scored two runs and also stole two bases and Jose Alicea (St. Croix, V.I.) scored two runs, drove in two runs and stole two bases.

    The Cougars scored the first eight runs of the game and did not allow a hit to the Golden Hawks until the fifth inning.

    Dan Sharpe (Youngstown, NY) started the game for Genesee and threw six innings, allowed one run on two hits and struck out nine. Dan Harms (Hamburg, Germany) came in to pitch the seventh and eighth innings and did not allow a run while allowing just one hit and struck out two. Collins finished the game by striking out two in the ninth.

    The two teams will play a double-header tomorrow beginning at noon.
