    Baseball wins at Mercyhurst North East

    The Genesee Community College baseball team picked up two big road wins yesterday at Mercyhurst North East.

    In game one, the Cougars took the lead in the fifth inning scoring on a single by Jose Alicea. Mercyhurst North East came back in the bottom of the inning scoring one to tie the game. The Cougars scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh to win the game 7-1. Brandon Collins went 2-4 and Rafeal Lozada went 2-3 to lead the team hitting. Rubin Medina continued to pitch well, throwing six innings striking out five while walking one.

     

    In game two, the offense continued to come alive scoring three in the first, four in the second, three in the third and six in the fourth, winning by the mercy rule after five innings, 16-2. Mark Knight led the team in hitting going 2-4 with a double and a triple scoring three times and having four RBI’s. Dan Harms got his fifth win of the season on the mound.

     

    The two teams are tied at the top of the Region III standings; Mercyhurst NE is currently ranked #8 in the country. The two teams meet again Saturday for a double header at Genesee Community College with the first pitch at 1pm.
