    Genesee Women's Soccer Wins Region, Coach Gillow Named Coach of the Year!

    The 5th seeded GCC Women's Soccer team (10-8-2) defeated the number 1 seed Herkimer CC 1-0 in Region III/Division IIII Championship A game this afternoon. This is the first regional win for the lady cougars since the early 80's. Genesee out shot Herkimer 12-7 and was led by Maranda Ohlson (Alexander, NY), who scored for the lady cougars with 6:37 remaining in the game off a corner kick from Jessie Jaszko (Batavia, NY).  Leslie George (Alexander, NY) had the shutout with 9 saves for the day. 

     

    Leslie George/GK (Alexander, NY) and Alesha Amend/Defender (Alexander, NY) were both named to the regional all tournament team while teammate Maranda Ohlson (Alexander, NY) was named MVP of the match.


    The Lady Cougars will head next to the district playoffs where they will play the winner of Region 21 on Saturday November 7, 2009 at Holyoke CC, MA.
