GENESEE BASEBALL WINS THE NEW YORK STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Genesee CC 12, Jamestown CC 4

Genesee CC 5, Monroe CC 4

On Saturday, the mens baseball team won its second conference championship ever. The last time was in 2005 when the men's team beat Monroe Community College. On Saturday night, the team beat rival Monroe Community College again to capture the title.

The team started the day by defeating Jamestown Community College 12-4. Ed Kohout got the win only walking two while striking out eight. Kohout also hit two doubles for the team. Leading the team in hitting was Shayne Herald and Eitan Maoz going three for four and John Polinious going three for three. Mitch Roy added a two for three performance with five RBI's.

In the championship game, Jacob Featherstone went three for four and scored twice to lead the team. Five other players (Mike Hackett, Ed Kohout, Shayne Herald, John Polinious and Anthony Rosado) all had hit for the Cougars. Greg Rapp got the win for Genesee coming in relief for starter Zack Leitten. Rapp pitched 3 innings striking out five while walking one.

The team finished the fall conference schedule going 11-2. It will play next weekend to close out the fall season for baseball on Saturday at Brockport State and then home at Dwyer Stadium on Sunday against the Ontario BlueJays.
