    GENESEE BASEBALL SWEEPS THE WEEKEND!

    The Genesee baseball team won four conference baseball games this weekend by defeating Erie CC on Saturday and Mercyhurst NE on Sunday.

    The Cougars started off the weekend strong against Erie CC on Saturday with two wins,  1-0 and 3-1.   Ed Kohout got his second win of the fall going all seven innings.  Kohout gave up four hits and one walk while striking out 8 in the shutout. Mike Hackett was one for three at the plate and scored the only run for Genesee. In game two, Greg Rapp got his first college win pitching all seven innings for Genesee allowing one run on four hits. Rapp struck out four batters and gave up only two walks. Mike Hackett led the team in hitting going 2-4 with a run scored while Shayne Herald went one for three with a double and RBI.

    On Sunday, the team increased there WNYAC record to 6-2 and is now tied for first place by defeating Mercyhurst North East 6-1 and 10-3. In the first game, Zack Leitten threw a complete game, giving up only three hits, striking out eight, and walking one. Ed Kohout went one for three for the team with an RBI, while John Polonious went one for three with two RBI’s. In game two, four (Shaun Slemko, Bryan Pyper, Ron Klienback, Rich Baird) pitchers combined for the win giving up six hits and three runs. The pitchers combined for four strikeouts while walking two. The bats finally broke out for the team this year with nine hits. Mike Hackett went two for three while seven other players all added a hit.

    The team travels to Canada on Tuesday for a scrimmage before returning next weekend for two big WNYAC games against Alfred State and Niagara CC.
