    Baseball: 2009 Season Wrap-up

The Genesee Community College baseball team finished their 2009 season with a 30-11 record (8-4 in the region) and broke multiple team and individual records in their first year at the Division II level. As a team, the Cougars broke records for the most at bats, runs, hits, RBIs, doubles, triples and homeruns in 2009. Ryan Sharpe (Cambridge, Ontario) set individual offensive records for the most at bats (142), runs (44), hits (47) and triples (7) in a single season. Chris Page (Batavia, NY) set individual records for the most walks (34), doubles (18) and RBIs (34) in a single season as well. Page was also recognized as an All-American in 2009, and was also named to the First Team All Region. Page also was drafted in the 50th round of the Major League Baseball League draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He was the first student athlete at Genesee Community College’s baseball history to achieve this honor. Jason Champ (London, Ontario) set a new pitching record for the Cougars, with seven wins on the mound. In addition to these records, the team made it to the championship game where they were seeded first overall.
