Health & Fitness

At Genesee Community College the goal of our Health & Fitness Program is to provide you with the resources to achieve a more balanced, fulfilling and healthy life, physically and mentally. Exercise is only one part of that. Proper nutrition and insightful information are equally important. Through our experienced staff and first class facilities we bring that to the college as well as the community.

Basic Fitness
Any list of the benefits of physical activity is impressive. A physically active lifestyle helps you generate more energy, control your weight, manage stress, and boost your immune system. It provides psychological and emotional benefits, contributing to your sense of competence and well-being.

Stretching Techniques
Stretching has long been proven to increase flexibility and performance and decrease the risk of injury. It is an essential part of any strength and conditioning program.

Diet & Nutrition
A proper diet and keeping a daily routine of good nutrition is one of the cornerstones of good health. In this day and age, there are many kinds of diets. The information and links provided are just a start. Remember that any change in your personal diet should be coupled with a consultation with your personal physician.

Weight Training
Weight training develops muscular strength and endurance in the same way that endurance exercise develops cardiovascular fitness. When the muscles are stressed by a greater load than they are used to, they adapt and improve their function. The type of adaptation that occurs depends on the type of stress applied.

Aquatic Fitness
Aquatic Fitness offers many options and different forms of training from lap swimming to water walking. Whether you are looking to improve your cardiovascular endurance or rehabilitate a chronic source of pain, aquatic exercise can help.

Training Injuries
Injuries, aches, and pains could be an unfortunate part of exercise and conditioning. However, many of the injuries achieved from exercise can be prevented.
