Catalog Description: Develops Spanish listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Emphasizes ability to use and understand Spanish in context. Strategies may include lecture/discussion, group and individual work, oral exercises, video, reading and writing assignments. Requires laboratory-supported practice. Students hold basic conversations, read simple passages, and write brief dialogues and paragraphs at the novice level. Instructor determines final placement.

Catalog Description: Strengthens Spanish listening, speaking, reading and writing skills acquired in Elementary Spanish I. Emphasizes the ability to use and understand Spanish in context. Strategies may include lecture/discussion, group and individual work, oral exercises, presentations, video, reading and writing assignments. Requires laboratory-supported practice. Instruction occurs in Spanish with clarification in English. Students express themselves orally, read authentic materials, understand oral input, and write compositions at the high-novice level. Instructor determines final placement. Prerequisite: SPA 101 or equivalent.

Catalog Description: Enhances Spanish listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Emphasizes increasing the accuracy and depth of communicative abilities and cultural understanding. Strategies may include lecture/discussion, group and individual work, presentations, oral exercises, video, reading and writing assignments. Requires laboratory-supported practice. Instruction occurs in Spanish. Students express themselves verbally and in writing, read authentic sources, and understand clear, native speech at the intermediate level. Instructor determines final placement. Typically offered Fall. Prerequisite: SPA 102 or equivalent.

Emphasizes increased accuracy and depth of students’ abilities and knowledge of contemporary Hispanic culture. Strategies may include lecture/discussion, group and individual work, oral exercises, presentations, video, reading and writing assignments. Requires laboratory-supported practice. Instruction occurs in Spanish. Students express themselves orally and in writing at the high-intermediate level and understand key concepts when spoken clearly at native speed. Instructor determines final placement. Typically offered Spring. Prerequisite: SPA 201 or equivalent.
