4 Catalog Description: Overview of common small animal diseases and the techniques used in treatment and care of these patients. The student will become familiar with common diseases with regard to epidemiology, incubation period, contagiousness, therapeutic treatments, measures of prevention, zoonotic potential, and prognosis. Laboratory emphasis will be placed on learning techniques used in practice such as placement and maintenance of intravenous catheters, cystocentesis, urethral catheterization, microchip placement, administration of fluids, administration of drugs and medications, applying and removing casts and bandages, and common physical therapy techniques. Common behavior problems in dogs and cats will be discussed along with behavioral modifying techniques and solutions. Fall only.
