PED172 - Weight Training
Credits: 1

Catalog Description: Designed for the inexperienced participant. Introduces fitness center safety, warm up and cool down, weight training adaptations, and nutritional considerations. Provides the opportunity to learn and practice common weight training techniques.

Lecture: 1.5 hrs.

Student Performance Outcomes:
Based upon course information, class discussions, activities, and assignments, at the completion of the course, each student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of weight training concepts and theory.
2. *Demonstrate on a practical exam, a minimum of 5 weight training techniques.
3. Identify, a minimum of 5 safety precautions in weight training and discuss their importance.
4. Increase their overall body strength based on a pre and post fitness assessment.

*This course objective has been identified as a student learning outcome that must be formally assessed as part of the College's Comprehensive Assessment Plan. All faculty teaching this course must collect the required data (see Assessing Student Learning Outcomes form) and submit the required analysis and documentation at the conclusion of the semester to the Office of Assessment and Special Projects.
