Communications and Media Arts Courses:


COM222 - Media Production Practicum
Credits: 2

Catalog Description: Internship at media facility or college cable television station in student's field of interest. Facility must be approved by program faculty. Two credit hours. Prerequisite: COM211 or ART210.

Lab: 2 hrs.

Student Performance Outcomes:
At the successful completion of this course, as documented by exams, projects, class presentations and demonstrations, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate practical knowledge of media production equipment.

2. The day-to-day operation of a media production facility.

3. Establish professional contacts in the student's field of interest.

4. Create portfolio/activity log as determined by faculty and site supervisor.

5. *Demonstrate understanding of project management principles by completing
an individually designed project.

* This course objective has been identified as a student learning outcome that must be formally accessed as part of the College'ss Comprehensive Assessment Plan. All faculty teaching this course must collect the required data (see Accessing Student Learning Outcomes form) and submit the required analysis and documentation at the conclusion of the semester to the Office of Assessment and Special Projects.

Content Outline:
1. Gain hands-on experience in multimedia production in filed chosen by students.
2. Learn to work with employer/client for multimedia development project.
3. Obtain skill in multimedia project planning.
4. Complete project as assigned from employer/client.
5. Create portfolio or site activity log.

Grading:
Class attendance, class participation, reading synopsis, exams and projects are all part of the grading criteria.
