3 Catalog Description: Explores health career opportunities and their educational requirements. Includes decision-making, goal-setting, and self-assessment skills as related to career choice. Successful completion of the course enables students enrolled in the Health Studies certificate program to complete their mandatory educational plan. Lecture: 3 hrs. Student Performance Outcomes: 1. Submit a portfolio of career assessment activities (SIGI, Focus, information interviews, employer site visit) including a one-page summary of at least two personal career choices based upon the portfolio information. 2. Participate in a minimum of 2 job shadowing experiences within the health care field and share those experiences with the class through oral reports. 3. Interview, using approved interview questions, a minimum of 2 health care professionals about their career, and then prepare at least a two page written report on each interview, responding to designated questions. 4. Demonstrate knowledge of the career planning process as evidenced by scoring a minimum average of 70% on weekly quizzes. 5.*Prepare and submit a personal career and educational plan according to a career/education plan rubric with 70% proficiency. * This course objective has been identified as a student learning outcome that must be formally assessed as part of the College's Comprehensive Assessment Plan. All faculty teaching this course must collect the required data (see Assessing Student Learning Outcomes form) and submit the required analysis and documentation at the conclusion of the semester to the Office of Assessment and Special Projects.
