Marcia H. Noonan, a graduate of Syracuse University and former Medical Social Worker in Syracuse, NY, Washington, D.C. and New York City, moved back to Genesee County in 1975.  An active community volunteer while raising four sons, she returned to full-time employment in 1991 as Administrator of Trocaire Place (now Victorian Manor), an Independent Senior Living Facility in Batavia, NY.  She has been active with Genesee United Way as a Board Member since 1985, a past President of the Board of Directors (1991-92), and Chair of the Allocations Committee since 1993.  She has been on the Batavia Downtown Improvement District Board since 2004 and was formerly active in many school and church activities, as well as a multitude of other charitable and community organizations.  In addition to her role as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the last two years, Mrs. Noonan is on the College’s Personnel Committee, liaison to the GCC Foundation Board, serves as a member of the GCC Foundation Housing Authority Committee, and is a past member of the Genesee Community College Association Board.

Mrs. Miller and her husband Charles operate one of the largest hog farms in the state.  She holds a Master’s degree in elementary education, and has been active in her community through service as a 4-H leader, on Cooperative Extension committees, and in her church.  Mrs. Miller served as Secretary of the Board of Trustees for two years, and is now in her second year of service as Vice Chairman of the Board.  In addition, she is a member of the Board’s Buildings and Grounds Committee.

Mr. Ruffino is a retired administrator for the New York State School for the Blind.  He has actively served his community over the years including being a member of the City of Batavia School District Board of Education, a Councilman-at-Large for the City of Batavia, and a Genesee County Legislator.  He holds his B.S. and M.S. in Industrial Arts from the State University of New York at Buffalo, School District Administration, Teacher of the Blind.  Mr. Ruffino currently serves as Secretary of the college Board, Chairman of the Board’s Policy Committee and is one of two Board liaisons to the College Foundation’s Board of Directors. He also serves on the Board of Visitors at the New York State School for the Blind.

Rev. Dodd has served on the Genesee Community College Board of Trustees since 1992 and has served in each office on the Board, including service as Board Chair for two years.  He also serves on the Board’s Buildings and Grounds Committee.  Rev. Dodd earned his Bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College and his Master’s degree from the Colgate-Rochester Divinity School.  Rev. Dodd worked in the broadcasting industry for 25 years before becoming an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church.  He has been a pastor for 17 years and has also served the Town of Oakfield as Town Supervisor the past 18 years.  In 2007, Rev. Dodd received the Marvin A. Rapp Award for Distinguished Trustee Service from the New York Community College Trustees association.

Laura Bohm, a lifelong resident of Batavia, is a Trustee Emeritus, having served on the Board of Trustees previously from 1986 until 2001.  She is an Administrative Assistant at Birchwood Village Apartments in Batavia.  Mrs. Bohm was an active Board member in her previous service to the College, having served in each office of the Board including three years as Chairman.  She received the Distinguished Service Award from the state trustees’ organization in 1999.  Mrs. Bohm’s service has not been limited to the community college.  She has supported the community through extensive volunteer work including the United Way Board of Directors, the City Youth Bureau, as a member of the City of Batavia School Board, as a Commissioner on the Batavia Housing Authority, to name a few.  Mrs. Bohm holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from SUNY Geneseo and taught for five years before leaving to raise her family.

Mrs. Torcello is Vice President/Branch Manager for the Bank of Castile.  She is a former chair of Genesee Country United Way and continues to serve as a member of the Board and the Executive Board. Mrs. Torcello is active in her community through service on the Children’s Home Board, the Wolcott J. Humphrey III Symposium Committee, St. Mary’s Church of Pavilion Finance Committee, and she is a member of the Pavilion Republican Committee.  She was named to the Buffalo Business First 40 Under 40.  She is a lifelong resident of Pavilion, and she and her husband Ralph have two sons.  Mrs. Torcello is a member of the Board’s Policy Committee.

Mrs. Marshall is a lifelong resident of Genesee County and is co-owner of Torrey Farms, Inc., a 10,000 acre family farm.  Her family has farmed in this area for over 200 years and includes operations in Genesee, Orleans, Niagara, and Yates counties.  She is currently Chairman of the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association Foundation and serves on several other agricultural associations at the state and national levels.  Mrs. Marshall is a member of the Board’s Policy Committee.

Mr. Morton is a retired New York State Supreme Court Justice for the Eighth Judicial District.  Since his retirement in 1996, he has been a partner in the law firm of Boylan, Morton and Whiting, LLP and a Judicial Hearing Officer for the Domestic Violence Court in Monroe County.  Mr. Morton served a year as a County Legislator and has been active in community civic organizations through the years.  He served as Chairman of the College Board of Trustees for three years and currently serves on the Board’s Personnel Committee.  Mr. Morton also served for several years on the College Foundation Board and was a key leader in the Foundation’s acquisition of College Village, the student housing facility.  Mr. Morton was recognized by the New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT) in 2004 with the Marvin A. Rapp Award for Distinguished Trustee Service.

Dr. Wentland is a Professor in the Biology Department at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY.  He has served as both Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Board and is the Chairman of the Board’s Personnel Committee.  Additionally, he is on the board of the New York Association of Community College Trustees (NYCCT) and is one of two northeast region chairmen for the Association of Community College Trustees, the national trustee organization.  Dr. Wentland is a recipient of two NYCCT awards, the Marvin A. Rapp Award for Distinguished Service (2001) and in 2006 the prestigious Anne M. Bushnell Memorial Award for Special Achievement.  Dr. Wentland holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from Marquette University and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.

Steven is from Henrietta, New York, and is a second-year Resident Assistant at College Village.  He is majoring in Human Services and his career goal is to be the director of residence life at a college in the Rochester area.

Board Meeting Schedule

Board of Trustee meetings are generally held the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.  Meetings are normally held in the Board Room at Genesee Community College in Batavia.  For specific information about a Board of Trustees meeting, contact Mrs. Cathy Costello, Executive Assistant to the President and Secretary to the Board of Trustees at 585-345-6812 or via email cecostello@genesee.edu.
