Six outstanding Genesee Community College graduates were the first to be inducted into the new Genesee Community College Hall of Fame during a ceremony in the north lobby of the Conable Technology Building, where a plaque was unveiled, featuring photographs and accomplishments of the first honorees.  The graduates were recognized for their success, their dedication to the college, and their outstanding community service.  The 2007 honorees are:  Joseph H. Bell-1979, vice president of Global Process and Product Integrity at Moog Inc. and managing director for Moog operations in Bangladore, India; Monica H. Dawson (1972), co-owner and secretary/treasurer of Shepard, Maxwell, and Hale Insurance Agency in Batavia; Jerry L. Reinhart (1971), founder of Access Rentals, a leading national equipment rental company, and president of Reinhart Enterprises, Inc.; Paula Savage (1976), director of tourism for the Greater Rochester Visitors Association and organizer of the first International Peace Garden Foundation; Lori Stupp (1989), Region Director of United Way in Genesee and Eastern Orleans Counties; and Margaret Weissend (1999), a registered nurse/community health nurse with the Genesee County Health Department.

Discover the Stars Scholarship Reception

Genesee Community College Foundation recognized its multifaceted scholarship program wherein many students receive some assistance and support at the annual Discover the Stars scholarship reception held in September 2007. Two notable alumni and Batavia residents, Lori Stupp ’89, Regional Director of United Way, and Steven Tanner ’93, Project Engineer with Clark Patterson Associates, in their remarks highlighted their own accomplishments and career achievements. They urged students to take advantage of the many opportunities at GCC through academic programs, clubs and unique workshops to develop career opportunities, leadership skills and confidence as they prepare for the future.

Dine-Out Days

Genesee Community College reaches out to the community to support its scholarship program during its Dine-Out Days promotion. The two-week restaurant revue gave diners an opportunity to try new restaurants or to revisit familiar ones, and at the same time support scholarships that encourage students to pursue their higher education locally. VETERANS HELPING VETERANS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Dr. Roger Triftshauser recently announced a new Veterans helping Veterans initiative to a group of leading veterans. The Veteran Scholarship Fund at Genesee Community College is envisioned to augment the federal veteran benefits to help veterans return to College to obtain vital job and career training. 
“The scholarship is our way of thanking veterans for their dedicated service, while ensuring that worthy and deserving men and women have the opportunity to complete a quality college education.  Our goal is to raise $10,000,” said Dr. Triftshauser. 

Gifts are payable to Genesee Community College Foundation and may be mailed to Genesee Community College Foundation, Veterans’ Scholarship Fund, One College Road, Batavia, NY 14020 or call 345-6809 for more information.
